Manga artist Matsuki said on X on October 7 that they've been hospitalized and need time to recover, so Overlord [Shin] Sekai-hen (*Overlord: New World Arc*) is on hiatus. No return date was given.
What the manga is
Matsuki launched New World Arc in Kadokawa's Comp Ace in April 2024, and the fourth volume came out on March 26. It's the sequel to Hugin Miyama and Satoshi Ōshio's original Overlord manga, which ran from 2014 to May 2023 over 19 volumes. Per ANN, New World Arc picks up in the middle of the 10th volume's story, after Ainz wins at the Katze Plains and founds the Sorcerer Kingdom. Yen Press publishes the earlier manga and Kugane Maruyama's light novels in English. The novels are planned to end at volume 18.
Where the anime stands
The anime hasn't had a TV season since Overlord IV in summer 2022, which SenpaiRanks tracks at 7.84, the franchise's best TV score. The first season sits at 7.81. The latest animated entry is the film Overlord: The Sacred Kingdom (2024), which scores 7.15 on our board and was screened by Crunchyroll in North America in November 2024. Crunchyroll also streams all four TV seasons, with an English dub.
Our read: this hiatus doesn't affect the anime, which adapts the light novels rather than the manga. The real wait is for a fifth TV season, and nothing has been announced. Our Overlord watch order and where-to-watch guide has the full viewing path, and we wish Matsuki a full recovery.
