The One Piece anime is on break until 2027. The last episode of the year aired on Fuji TV on Sunday, September 27, and the official One Piece anime account confirmed that new episodes return next year. Starting October 11, the Sunday 11:15 p.m. slot goes to Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, Toei's rebuilt edition of Dragon Ball Super.
Quick answer
One Piece returns in 2027; no exact date yet. The Elbaph arc premiered in Japan on April 5, 2026 and wrapped its 2026 run on September 27. Toei Animation now caps the show at 26 episodes a year, so a long off-season is normal now. Crunchyroll streams the Elbaph arc and the full back catalogue in most regions. SenpaiRanks tracks the 1999 One Piece TV series at 8.36 adjusted, one of the highest scores for any long-running shonen on the board.
Why the break is happening
None of this is a surprise. In October 2025, Toei and producer Ryūta Koike said the anime would drop to 26 episodes a year at most from 2026. After the Egghead arc ended, the show took a three-month production break from January to March 2026. It came back in April for two cours of Elbaph, and now it's off again for the winter.
Toei's reasoning: fewer episodes let each one cover more of the manga with better pacing and tempo. That's a direct fix for the main complaint about One Piece's TV era, which was stretched chapters, recap-heavy cold opens and fights that ran three episodes too long. For 25 years the anime aired almost every week. That era is over.
What fills the gap
Dragon Ball Super: Beerus takes over the timeslot on October 11. It's more than a rerun. Per Toei, it's a full reconstruction of the Battle of Gods arc with new cuts, revised scenes, re-rendered footage and a newly recorded dub track. Here is the official trailer:

Not the only Jump hiatus right now
Long-running Shonen Jump series are pacing themselves across the board. Hunter x Hunter's manga is on hiatus again, and Gachiakuta's manga paused while its anime prepares Season 2. Meanwhile Wit Studio's THE ONE PIECE remake is heading to Netflix in 2027, so the series' return could land in the same year as the remake.
