Kei Urana's Gachiakuta is still not back. Kodansha confirmed the Weekly Shonen Magazine series remains on hold — the last chapter ran in the combined 36th/37th issue that shipped August 5, 2026 — and the reason given is research, not illness or scheduling. No return date has been set.
Update (October 16, 2026): the hiatus has an end date — Gachiakuta returns on November 11, 2026.
Quick answer
Gachiakuta's manga has been on hiatus since the chapter in Weekly Shonen Magazine's combined 36th/37th issue of August 5, 2026. Kodansha says Urana is conducting research and will announce the return once decided. The anime is unaffected: the 24-episode first season from bones film premiered in July 2025 and Crunchyroll streams it with an English dub across North America, Europe and other territories. A second season is greenlit with no dated premiere. The English manga is at 19 volumes from Kodansha USA, the latest on July 16, 2026. SenpaiRanks tracks Gachiakuta at 7.15 adjusted against a raw 8.02.
What Kodansha said
The wording matters. "Hiatus so that Urana could conduct research" is a different category from the health hiatuses that have hit shonen serialization this year — it reads as a deliberate production pause on a series whose worldbuilding runs on invented material culture. Gachiakuta's whole aesthetic is trash given specific weight and history; that is a lot to keep inventing weekly at magazine pace.
What Kodansha did not give is a date. "Announce the return once it is decided" is the standard phrasing for an open-ended pause, so treat any specific restart claim you see as speculation until the magazine says otherwise.
What it means for season 2
Nothing, in the short term. The adaptation has 19 volumes of published material to work from and the first season covered a fraction of it. Anime production also runs 18 months or more ahead of broadcast, so a manga pause starting in August 2026 cannot plausibly touch a season already in production.
The reason to watch this at all is the medium-term risk that the anime catches up to the manga — the failure mode that has produced filler arcs and awkward anime-original endings for decades. A season 2 with a full-volume buffer is fine. A season 3 would depend on Urana's return.
Reception signal
Per SenpaiRanks, Gachiakuta sits at 7.15 adjusted against a raw 8.02 — nearly a full point of correction. That is the standard shape for a recent, hyped shonen: the people who show up early rate high, and the adjusted axis waits for volume before it believes them. It is a genuinely good show, not yet a proven one, and those are different claims that a single score cannot separate.

Where to watch
Crunchyroll carries season 1 subbed and dubbed across North America, Europe and additional territories, per Kodansha's own release information. That is a straight answer, not a platform preference — we list whoever actually has it, which is why our where-to-watch rows sometimes point away from the biggest name.
Season 2 has no premiere date. When it lands it will show up on the fall premiere calendar and the best fall 2026 anime board; what to watch this fall is the wider slate in the meantime.
Watched it? Rate it on the show page. The 7.15 moves when anime watchers vote, which is the only reason the number means anything.
