The summer season is still airing, but the fall 2026 slate is already the more interesting board. A few of the returning heavyweights carry some of the highest scores SenpaiRanks tracks, and a couple of newcomers are worth a slot before the hype catches up. Here's what to line up for October, ranked by how the previous seasons actually landed with anime-native voters — not by marketing budget.
Quick answer
According to SenpaiRanks, the fall 2026 season is led by returning titles: Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 3rd Season (The Apothecary Diaries), whose first season holds a 7.67 consensus score, premieres in October 2026 on Crunchyroll; Gachiakuta 2nd Season (Studio Bones, first season at 7.15) continues its cour; and Ranma ½ 3rd Season debuts October 3. New this season, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 returns to Netflix and Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden premieres October 6. Rankings use SenpaiRanks's dual-axis system — Consensus (broadly liked) and Quality (holds up) — instead of a single averaged number.
The ranked list
1. Kusuriya no Hitorigoto 3rd Season — consensus 7.67
The Apothecary Diaries is the safest bet on the board. Maomao's detective-in-a-palace formula has held its score across two seasons, and season 3 lands in October 2026 (a second cour follows in April 2027). Crunchyroll streams it with an English dub.
2. Gachiakuta 2nd Season — first season 7.15
Bones' grungy trash-world action series didn't slow down. The First Look video for the second season is below, and the first cour sits at a solid 7.15 on our consensus board.
3. Ranma ½ 3rd Season — debuts October 3
MAPPA's remake of the Rumiko Takahashi classic returns for a third season on October 3. It's the nostalgia play of the season, and the earlier cours have been well received.
4. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 — Netflix
The follow-up to Trigger's breakout Netflix hit is back. The first season became one of the platform's most-cited anime; the sequel is the newcomer with the highest ceiling.
5. Nia Liston: The Merciless Maiden — premieres October 6
The isekai wildcard. A frail noblewoman reincarnates as a god-slaying martial artist — think power-fantasy with a comedic edge. Too new to carry a SenpaiRanks score yet, which is exactly why it's worth watching where it lands.
How to read this board
We don't publish one number. Every show above carries a Consensus score (how broadly liked it is) and a Quality score (whether it holds up on rewatch) — the split MyAnimeList's single average can't show you. A show can be widely watched and still shaky, or niche and rock-solid; the two axes tell you which. Once an episode is out, you can rate it yourself and see where your taste lands against the crowd.
