Bocchi the Rock! is going to theaters with new material. A teaser trailer released on November 1 revealed Bocchi the Rock! the Movie: Hoshi no Ashiato (*Footprints of the Stars*), a 2027 theatrical film from CloverWorks. This isn't another recap: it adapts "Hoshi ni Tamukeru Ai no Hana," a prequel special from manga volume 5 centered on Seika Ijichi, Nijika's older sister and the owner of the STARRY live house. ANIMEC distributes in Japan.
Quick answer
Bocchi the Rock! the Movie: Hoshi no Ashiato opens in Japanese theaters in 2027 (no exact date yet). It's a prequel about the Ijichi sisters' separation ten years before the series, directed by Shin Wakabayashi with a script by Erika Yoshida and character designs by Yukiko Horiguchi. Maaya Uchida voices Seika and Sayumi Suzushiro returns as Nijika. The original 12-episode TV anime (CloverWorks, fall 2022) streams on Crunchyroll, and SenpaiRanks tracks it at 8.69 Consensus across 5,000 effective votes, among the 25 highest-rated anime on our board.
Why a Seika movie makes sense
Seika is the most underwritten important character in the TV run. She's the gruff big sister who runs STARRY, gives Kessoku Band its first stage and turns out to care a lot more than she lets on. The volume 5 special fills in her past and the dream that pulled the sisters apart, which is the kind of backstory a 12-episode season never had room for. Horiguchi's character designs keep the film visually tied to the TV look, and the core voice cast question is already half-answered with Suzushiro back as Nijika.
Where things stand on season 2
The movie doesn't replace the sequel. Bocchi the Rock! Season 2 was announced in February 2025 with Yūsuke Yamamoto taking over as director from Keiichirō Saitō, and as of this announcement it still has no premiere date. We list it on the board, but it has no votes yet, so treat that score as a placeholder until it airs.
