Nue's Exorcist (*Nue no Onmyōji*), Kōta Kawae's Weekly Shōnen Jump series, is getting a TV anime that premieres in summer 2027 on TV Asahi. The announcement came during Monday's Jump Press livestream along with a teaser video, a teaser visual, the main cast and the core staff, per Anime News Network and MyAnimeList.
The pitch
Gakuro Yajima has seen spirits his whole life and only wants to be left alone. In high school he stumbles into a sealed room and meets Nue, a powerful spirit who loves video games and has been waiting years for someone to find her. She wants him to exorcise the dangerous spirits roaming the school; he would rather not. It's a supernatural action comedy, and the manga has the numbers: 1.6 million copies in circulation, 16 volumes, and first place in AnimeJapan 2025's "Manga We Want to See Animated" poll.
Who's making it
- Director: Hiroyuki Hashimoto (*Classroom of the Elite*, the original Magical Girl Raising Project)
- Series composition: Hiroshi Seko (*Jujutsu Kaisen*, DAN DA DAN, Dorohedoro)
- Character design: Shunpei Mochizuki (*Sakugan*)
- Music: MONACA (*NieR:Automata Ver1.1a*)
- Studio: Studio Hibari
The cast
- Kaito Miura as Gakuro Yajima
- Saori Ōnishi as Nue
- Sayumi Suzushiro as Kazusa Suo
How to read it
Seko writing the scripts is the headline. He shaped the pacing of Jujutsu Kaisen and DAN DA DAN, which is the same spirit-fighting-at-school territory this lives in. Hashimoto has a more uneven record, but his Magical Girl Raising Project is getting a sequel this season: see Magical Girl Raising Project: Restart. Studio Hibari also animates Tougen Anki, so this is its second Jump-adjacent action title. There's no streaming partner yet. You can read the manga in English now on MANGA Plus and from Viz Media, which publishes it digitally and in print. More demons-at-school fare: the Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun movie. For what's airing right now, see the weekly anime schedule.
