Happy Kanako's Killer Life (*Shiawase Kanako no Koroshiya Seikatsu*) is getting a TV anime in April 2027. TOHO animation opened the official site this week with a teaser visual, a teaser PV and the first cast, per Anime News Network and MyAnimeList. The director is a familiar name for comedy fans: Shinji Takamatsu, of Gintama.
Quick answer
Happy Kanako's Killer Life is a TV anime based on Toshiya Wakabayashi's four-panel web manga. It premieres in April 2027 from Studio Drive, produced by TOHO animation. Shinji Takamatsu directs and writes the scripts, and Yoshiyuki Ōkubo (*Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*) handles character design and chief animation direction. Hana Tamegai voices Kanako, Ryōta Suzuki plays Sakurai, and Junichi Suwabe plays the company president. Seven Seas publishes the manga in English. No streaming partner has been announced yet, so there's no SenpaiRanks score; the board opens when it airs.
The pitch
Kanako Nishino hates her office job. Then she quits, takes a position at an assassination agency, and finds out she's very good at contract killing. The joke is that the series treats murder-for-hire as ordinary office life, with difficult coworkers, a boss who's hard to read, and the question of whether she's finally found a job she likes. The manga started on Twitter and pixivFANBOX in 2019 before moving to Seikaisha's Twi4. It's up to nine volumes in Japan, and Seven Seas has released eight in English.

Production notes
The interesting choice here is Takamatsu. He's known for directing fast, dense comedy on Gintama (see our Gintama movie guide), and four-panel manga needs exactly that kind of timing to work as animation. The story has already been adapted once: a live-action series on DMM TV debuted in February 2025, and its second season started September 17, 2026.
Worth a slot?
For spring 2027, it's a dark workplace comedy with a strong comedy director, which isn't a common combination. It's early, though. We'll know more once a streaming partner and a premiere date are announced. If you like darker 2027 premieres, Record of a Fallen Vampire is also on the way, and so is the Kagurabachi anime.
