Crunchyroll has picked up the next Apothecary Diaries film. The company announced on October 8 that it holds North American and worldwide rights (excluding Asia, but including India) to The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure, which opens in Japanese theaters on December 11, 2026. The international release date will be announced later by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
Quick answer
The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady's Treasure (*Kusuriya no Hitorigoto: Bōhi no Hihō*) is the first feature film in the franchise, with an original story by series author Hyuganatsu. It opens in Japan on December 11, 2026; Crunchyroll will distribute it in North America and most of the world, date to be confirmed. Mariya Ise joins the cast as Mu Qing (romanization not final). SenpaiRanks tracks the TV series at 7.67 (Season 1) and will open the film's board after it screens.

What the movie is about
Maomao and Jinshi travel to the hometown of a concubine who died in the rear palace five years earlier, to return her remains to her homeland. Along the way: pirates, hidden treasure, the secret of the Empress's remains and a mysterious boy who holds the key to it all. It is a brand-new story rather than an adaptation of a novel volume, so book readers go in blind too.
Why the deal matters
This was the expected outcome, but it still needed to be confirmed. Crunchyroll simulcast both previous seasons with English dubs, and Season 3 premiered October 2 on NTV's Friday Anime Night block. The second cour of Season 3 follows in April 2027, so the film lands right in the gap between cours. With Sony's theatrical arm involved, a North American cinema run before streaming looks likely, the same route Crunchyroll used for its recent tentpole films.
