The Remarried Empress, one of the biggest romance-fantasy webtoons ever published, is getting a TV anime. Crunchyroll announced it at New York Comic Con on October 8: TROYCA is animating the adaptation for broadcast in 2027, and the main cast is already set.

Quick answer

The Remarried Empress (*Saikon Shōnin wo Yōkyū Shimasu*) is a 2027 TV anime from studio TROYCA, adapting HereLee and SUMPUL's webtoon of Alphatart's web novel. Tetsuya Yanagisawa directs, Akiko Inoue writes the scripts, Jun Nakai designs the characters and Yūki Fukazawa composes. The cast is Yōko Hikasa (Navier), Ryōhei Kimura (Heinrey), Tomoaki Maeno (Sovieshu) and Reina Ueda (Rashta). Crunchyroll announced the project; no premiere month or streaming platform is confirmed yet. Separately, a live-action series premieres on Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, 2026.

What the story is

Navier is the flawless Empress of the Eastern Empire. When her husband, Emperor Sovieshu, moves to replace her with his mistress Rashta, she does not fight to keep the throne. She asks for a divorce, and for permission to remarry, with the plan of becoming Empress of another nation entirely. That last move is the hook: it is a revenge-romance where the heroine wins by walking out, not by crying about it.

The numbers explain why an anime was inevitable. The webtoon passed 2.97 billion global views, was translated into 10 languages and has a particularly strong readership in Japan. It wrapped in January after a seven-year run, with side stories returning this fall. In English it is on WEBTOON, and Ize Press publishes the print edition.

The team

TROYCA is best known for Aldnoah.Zero and Re:Creators, and director Yanagisawa is coming off Berserk of Gluttony. The more telling hire is writer Akiko Inoue, who scripted the villainess romcom An Observation Log of My Fiancée Who Calls Herself a Villainess. Court-intrigue romance lives or dies on dialogue, so that is the right instinct. Character designer Jun Nakai (GATE, NieR:Automata Ver1.1a) has to translate a webtoon's full-color art style into TV animation, which is the visual question to watch in the next trailer.

Live-action first, anime second

There is a timing wrinkle. The Remarried Empress live-action drama arrives first: Disney+ and Hulu on November 4, two episodes every Wednesday through the November 25 finale, 10 episodes in total. The anime will land after the drama, so expect a lot of newcomers to discover the story through Disney first.

Where it fits

Webtoon adaptations are on a run right now; our best webtoon and manhwa anime ranking shows which ones actually stuck the landing. If you want more palace-drama romance while you wait, the best josei anime and best shojo anime lists are the place to start. The Remarried Empress gets its own SenpaiRanks board once the anime airs, ranked by real viewer votes instead of a stale catalog number.
